Winning Self Help Tactics to stop Fear and Anxiety making you Procrastinate for one second longer!
Procrastination is a way of avoiding depression or coping with emotions that lead to depression or stress. This brings only temporarily relief and the next day when you wake, you learn that no little Fairy has done the work for you- and the emotional stress of not completing your project returns. So, what would he do?
Procrastination can manifest itself in many forms and for many reasons. It is mainly the avoidance of a commitment that needs to be lodged usually within a certain timeframe. None of us have escaped the clutches of procrastination at one time or another in our life because it is so easy to succumb to its tempting ways.
Procrastination has many disguises: television, internet, email, books, household chores, telephone, sleep and even the excuse of helping a friend. Procrastinators seldom do nothing, but what they do get done is barely useful.
We all procrastinate to some extent. There are mostly other projects you could be doing instead that would be more fun or satisfying to complete. Some say there is no cure for procrastination so perhaps we need to seek not to prevent it but instead to just deny it in the best way possible.
For many the underlying root issue of your procrastination is fear and anxiety. You feel anxious about a projects so you choose to ignore it. This is a serious problem for students who have many deadlines to meet but it is also a growing problem for those in the home and workplace.
Fear and anxiety over not completing a task or project leads to procrastination and this in turn causes more fear of failure. Failure fear is common but some fear success. It becomes a vicious cycle that gets harder and harder to break the habit of. They feel if they complete the task successfully it will set the bar too high for future projects.
Students are overwhelmed with an assignment and fear getting a miserable grade. They substitute worry for studying but feel if they fail because of procrastination they will be assessed as lacking in effort and this is more acceptable than lacking in ability. They fear looking foolish.
An interesting side note: College students who procrastinate are often more prone to drinking, smoking, insomnia and sickness such as flu. Psychologists say the drinking and smoking are to assist ease the pain of fear and anxiety caused by procrastination, which leads to health problems.
So regularly we delay completing a task because we fear criticism, disapproval and negative feedback. We would rather procrastinate than suffer the fear of shame and embarrassment of unreal expectations.
This grows into fear and anxiety of possible rejection, being criticized and making mistakes. Some even fear losing freedom and put off committing to a project. Fears are sometimes unconscious and many people would deny they ever suffer from them.
There are many methods to combat fear, anxiety and its resultant offspring, procrastination. Realize that you have a choice to succeed or not to succeed. Set realistic goals in achievable increments and learn a sense of self worth.
Don’t focus on your weaknesses. Most fears are unfounded and irrational. Realize that you are working against yourself, and then analyze them and move on. Ask yourself the real reason for why you are afraid. Be realistically honest with yourself. For some people, practicing simple exercise and deep breathing help to alleviate the anxiety and stress levels.
Get organized. Now do NOT procrastinate on this also. Make your To Do lists but keep it simple and achievable. Include both small and the large things to do on this list. The completion of small things could lead to big successes in the future.
When a projects is completed, mark it off your list. It is fun to watch your list grow shorter and shorter. And you will be pleased at how much this gives you a feeling of success and spurs you on to greater success. Classes in organization are offered in many places and may be just right for you. You can also download many self help books on getting organized too.
Prioritize your lists. The most important task is not always the most pleasant. Should you pay bills that are due to avoid a late payment penalty or you should you clean out a kitchen utility drawer? Achieving deadlines gives your morale a boost and sometimes your savings too.
Take these self help activity at one step at a time and slice the work pie into smaller chunks. Before you know it the whole pie has been eaten. It has been said that the longest journey begins with the first step. It is the same with any scary task. By the yard it may be hard, but by the inch it is a cinch.
Have realistic expectations of yourself in this task. If you have a large task that is now causing anxiety, fist just do some of the smaller things related to the task as a whole. Thus the whole becomes manageable again in your mind, along with the satisfaction of seeing the first steps being already achieved by you.
Get a calendar to list dates and appointments and to make sure you meet all deadlines for both short and long term goals. Look at your calendar frequently and do not overbook yourself to be in too many places or working on too many assignments at once. Leave plenty of white space on your pages, in between all the To Do notes and appointments, as that can also bring a feeling of peace.
Do not think you must do everything perfectly. You are human and humans make mistakes.
Get started. Each day diarize time to work on the task at hand and eventually the task will be achieved. Reward yourself and anticipate that reward as an incentive to work. Return back to work refreshed.
Allow adequate time to complete the thingsand there is no need to panic if you fall behind. Be flexible. Extensions can usually bearranged but do not begin with this in mind. Many projects never get done by feeling you are the only one who can do it properly. A good leader is one who delegates and has a Plan B, so use all the help and resources you can get your hands on to get the job done.

Making a Plan and Taking Action
When clients are first tasked with making a plan in order to take action, I initially ask them to think about a time when they were planning a vacation. What is the first question you asked yourself? You most likely considered a destination. Perhaps it’s a dream safari vacation on the Serengeti, or maybe a more relaxing stay on the Caribbean. Whatever you decided, you a needed a map to mark out your directions, or a travel itinerary. If you don’t have a plan in place, chances are slim that you will reach your destination in the time allotted for your vacation. This type of planning is critical not just to achieving an enjoyable vacation, but to most life-goals.
Let’s take a moment to review the concept of S.M.A.R.T. goals; goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and have Timely expectations. Make sure that the goal you are working toward is something that you really want. Remember that a goal that you set for yourself cannot contradict other goals in your life. For instance, if you want to try every pizzeria in Montreal, but you have also set a goal to lose twenty pounds in the next six months, well something has got to give and it won’t be the twenty pounds if you decide visiting the pizzeria’s is a priority.
No one said it was going to be easy, but you have to consider six areas of your life when you start setting your goals, so that you don’t go against other equally important aspirations. Most commonly these areas are divided into family and home, financial and career, spiritual and ethical, physical and health, social and cultural, as well as mental and educational.
It’s also important to consider writing your goals in a positive, rather than in a negative statement, including as much detail in the statement as possible to ensure that you have put parameters around realizing your goals. Don’t make it too easy. The best way to visualize your goals is to write them down and review them each morning and evening. Practice visualization on a consistent basis because this process will start both your subconscious and conscious mind working towards achieving your goal.
Daily decision-making can either lead you away from your ultimate goal, or take you closer to it. When you make choices during the day, consider your goal. If your choice doesn’t move you closer to your goal, it may be time to make a value assessment to determine if in fact this is the right decision at this time. And, unless someone is critical to helping you achieve your goal, do not freely share your thoughts with others. The negative attitude from friends, family and neighbours can sometimes drag you down quickly. It is very important that you maintain positive self-talk.

Time Management Tips - Making Good Use of Online Calendars
To improve the quality of your life, it all comes down to time management. How so? You see, everything you do in your life, be it work, career or family, has something to do your time management skills. Having time management skills means you should know what matters most, and go do it. The problem is, we usually don’t notice how we make use of our time. So all that time has gone by, and at the end of the day, we realized that most of it is wasted. The solution is simple. All we need is a time management tool to help us manage our time better.
Before the age of the Internet, you may have to pay money for calendar software. But that is a thing of the past now. You can freely download the latest calendars on the Internet, and use it in whatever way you wish. Don’t underestimate this powerful time management tool. Here are some tips on how you can use your brand new calendar.
Tip 1: Update your calendar on a daily basis.
Use your calendar as a tracking device. Whatever you have planned for the day, put it in your calendar. Better still, print out the calendar and fill it in on paper. That way, you are clear about what you are going to do for the day. If there are changes, simply update the calendar.
You don’t have to make changes to your work life or family life immediately. For starters, it is good enough for you to notice where all that time has gone. If there are to be changes, be sure to manage them properly. Don’t change everything at one go. Change one or two things at a time. For example, if you realize that you have been spending way too much time in the office, you may wish to cut back on your working hours during Friday nights and weekends to spend more time with your family.
Tip 2: Break up your time into smaller slots.
Often, you find that you have lots of time in between appointments. Try to locate where all the time pockets are. If you can locate just 15 minutes of free time each day, that is close to a couple of hours more in a week. You would never have made good use of that time if not for your time management calendar.
Tip 3: Set your priorities straight.
Always think about what matters to you most in your life. You have to be doing what matters most. Otherwise, it’s just time down the drain, and you may feel regretful about having wasted all that time. Make sure you manifest that as you fill in your calendar. If something is not important to you, you can always leave it for later. That is how you can prioritize your life and keep things organized. In the long run, you will be leading a much happier life. All thanks to the free calendar that you’ve downloaded from the Internet.

To People Who Want to Escape QUIET DESPERATION But Can’t Get Started
Did you ever wonder what Henry David Thoreau meant when he said Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them or do you already know that feeling all too well? If you are not sure, test yourself with the example below to see if you already qualify!
Imagine you are busy with a dozen things, taking calls, making plans and trying to get on a bus to go to something that it is critical that you attend.
In between the phone and making notes and just the things of life you get on the bus to go to your main event.
After a while of driving along the road, you get the feeling that something is wrong.
What is it that is niggling at you? You are still writing things up and the phone keeps ringing, you are busy, but something is just not right.
You begin to pay attention to your surroundings and you cannot quite place where you are. Slowly, surprisingly slowly, you come to realize that you have got onto the wrong bus.
My gosh, what do you do?
You can stop the bus and get off but you have no idea where you are or how to get to the right place. From where you are now you don’t even know which direction the right place is.
Tension builds. Staying on the bus will get you to the wrong place. You will not get to where you want to be. On the other hand who knows where you will be if you get off now. At the very worst, staying on the bus will get you to a known destination and maybe you can arrange to get to the right place from there.
This is the feeling that afflicts many people with the direction of their lives.
They know that continuing what they are doing will not get them to the place they want to go to.
They know that their life is not what they planned and they are not in control of it.
The problem is that they do not know what they can do to make things different.
They live lives of quiet desperation.
So, what answers are there to this?
Wait till you get to the end of your career and then retire at last, your time would be free but nothing else is? Continuing down that road means you end up old and broke after selling your life and time at wholesale so that someone else can profit from selling your time at retail.
The other answer, jumping off the bus, works for some people. The trouble is that you can end up very sore, battered and bruised from jumping off a moving bus.
Most people stay on it to avoid the torn clothes and skin and the loss of blood from jumping off. Quietly desperate, but safe.
Someone I respect once asked his mother how long he had to do a demanding and repetitive summer job he was working at. She told him Until you can find something better and step to it.
This is where many people find their answer. Something better. How about finding an alternative way of making money, an alternative way of living and begin to do it alongside what you are doing now.
If you are able to set up a business that is inexpensive to start and that can be worked in a sensible number of hours per week, hours that YOU choose, working with products that you believe in, then it can be more a hobby or an interest at the start. It is not a job till you make it a job by the way you treat it. A hobby can take time and effort but if you have passion in it then it is not work at all.
Finding a business with the potential to grow into a full time position is not as easy as it sounds and building a business to the point where it will support you to change the direction of your life takes work and effort. But is the pain of creating a new direction in your life more than the pain of staying with the future you have now?
When you realize that you can have a direct effect on your destiny then I suggest you go back to the direct sales companies, the Multi Level Marketing (MLM) companies and the other places where you can put down a small investment of cash, a small investment of time, and begin to build a business.
The issue is not if you are going to start something that may fail. The issue is that if you do not start something is your current life going to guarantee that you never achieve the potential of what you could have achieved!
As Jim Rohn said: For things to change, you need to change. For things to be different you need to do something different.
The answers and the support are out there for you to succeed to achieve your dreams. Success leaves clues, just find some successful people to coach you on how they did it. Since other people have done it, why not you too?
Start taking positive steps to get in the drivers seat of your life, don’t leave it up to others to decide what you and your life is worth.

Fourteen Key Personal Development Skills
It’s helpful to take a high level perspective on personal development, looking broadly at all the important skills. This can help identify areas you may be weak in, and serve as a mental checklist to help you focus. While this is not an exhaustive list of elements important to personal development, these are some of the most important.
1. Continuous Learning: Take responsibility for your own lifelong personal development, knowing that it’s the secret to success in all areas of life, and your most valuable asset. Your knowledge and experience is personal wealth you can never lose.
2. Positivity: Find the positive aspect in everything, accepting what cannot be changed, and acting on what can, towards a positive result. Don’t let circumstances drive your state of being, let your state of being drive your results. Smile and use humor to help drive a positive attitude and share it with others.
3. Personal Excellence: Strive to do your best in everything you do. If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. Not only to achieve superior results, but so that if you fail you can remain positive rather than wishing you had tried harder. Look to be creative in your personal excellence rather than follow the safest, lowest risk path.
4. Honesty: Maintain honesty and integrity in all that you do. Trust and respect by others is hard earned, yet can be permanently lost over the smallest lie. Decide that honesty is one of your core values, and stick to it at all costs.
5. Know Yourself: You are a unique individual with your own strengths and weaknesses, all others have these also. The difference with a successful person is they have learned to leverage their strengths, and to identify their weaknesses so they can improve those areas through learning and practice. Accept yourself as you are without comparison to others, if you look you will find much about yourself to be proud of and thankful for.
6. Appreciate the Moment: Seek happiness in the present moment, even in the simple things around you such as nature, a good conversation, or a good meal. Excessive contemplation on the past or future steals this appreciation from you. Some techniques to support this is getting out in nature, and meditation.
7. Communicate Well: Learning to communicate well with others is an essential skill, which includes speaking, writing, listening well, and body language. Nearly everyone can still find areas to grow with these skills, and should receive constant attention. Becoming a good listener is one of the top areas of improvement you should seek, become truly interested in other people and it will work wonders.
8. Embrace Mistakes: Mistakes are a prerequisite to personal development; you must choose either courage and success, or safety and being average. Mistakes are a learning opportunity so long as you are not repeating your mistakes, if you have learned from a failure then pat yourself on the back. Carry this to other’s mistakes also, forgive them with this understanding in mind.
9. Embrace Change: Change is a constant part of life, and integral to personal development and success. Become excited about change, and look to it with a positive attitude. Be a leader by being the initiator of positive change. If you fear change, then you fear personal development, as self improvement is about changing yourself.
10. Increase Your Value: Know that personal development is not a selfish activity; rather it increases your value to others, ranging from relationships, business, and career. Too many people focus on changing others, which rarely works as well as changing yourself. Make a difference externally by changing yourself internally.
11. Be Giving: Seek to be giving, compassionate, loving, yet humble, knowing you receive what you give out. This is a secret to finding happiness in life.
12. Balance: Seek balance in all areas of life, considering family, relationships, career, business, health, leisure, and spirituality.
13. Gratitude: Be thankful for the gift and opportunity of life. If you have a spiritual belief, pursue the core tenets of the teachings and make them part of who you are.
14. Find Your Excitement: Find things in life that excite you, and act on them. Embracing things which excite and motivate you will move you more quickly into success and happiness, and attract the things you need to get there. This attitude will support and integrate with all the above tenets.

Proven Ways To Get Organized That Work Like Magic!
Do you feel that you are a failure when it comes to getting and keeping your house organized? Well, you are not! Perhaps you just followed the wrong plan to try and get organized, if you even had a plan at all! Some people break out into a sweat and start to panic from a feeling of total overwhelm just at the thought of having to sort out their garage or home.
Well, it is natural to feel this way if you have not had the help of experts to make sure you enjoyed the sense of satisfaction and pride you get from the job done well when you tried to get organized. You can get that expertise right here to get you started on the right path, and before you know it you will be enjoying the sense of control from even just getting started on clearing the clutter in your life and your environment.
The fact is that today’s busy life demands all of our time and leaves us no space for keeping things in order at home. More than 86% of Americans today consider put off for as long as possible having to face the job and go through the cleaning and arranging process with dread.
What people fail to realize is that organized homes actually save them more time, money and reduce their stress levels. If disorganization is already stressing you every day, you have to do something to straighten your house and your life as well.
While the purpose of the following tips below is to make your house as orderly as possible, it should be emphasized that orderliness is not all about a clean environment alone, it’s about creating an orderly, clean and a happy family.
Set goals when you are starting to get organized.
This is more effective than doing things all at the same time and continuing the next day. Do one area at a time. If you did not finish on time, have a storage place for things you took out from their original place and clear the new space where you plan to put them.
Small steps are more fulfilling and easy to accomplish.
Do not try to aim big when you are fully aware of your busy schedule. Starting small will guarantee you complete the first job and give you less stress and not really disrupt your everyday schedule.
Set a deadline.
Clutter starts giving you problems if you keep on storing things for purposes that they are never needed for. If you want to keep things be sure to set time limits for them and if the reason for keeping them does not come through then do not hesitate to use, give or throw them away. For instance if you havent worn a garment or used an item for two years, you probably never will again, so dispose of it.
Organizational Supplies
If you are a professional and cannot avoid the influx of papers stacking up in your home, there are several ways by which you can keep them pouring in and stay organized at the same time.
Try putting up simple items which will help you stack paper files (drawer dividers) with color tags. You may also put some paper documents on shelves, racks or in containers for other accessory items.
Appropriate Systems
Keep a daily, individualized, unique cleaning ritual of your own. Decide which are your ‘must do’ cleaning chores, and allocate ONE task for every day of the week.
Get rid of items that are not useful or those that take up too much space and effort in its maintenance.
Less is More
Make sure your d-cor is based on convenience and function-ability, not just beauty. Home decors may look good at times but current interior designing trends taught us that less pieces of furniture with a monochromatic theme allows for a more peaceful and orderly environment. Ancient Feng Shui also says that clutter is bad for your energy flow and fortunes.
Challenge Behavior
Do you never rinse and stack away your dishes, just letting them pile up in the sink. Behaviors sometimes keep us from maintaining a neat home environment. Try to identify your daily routines and avoid ones that encourages the piling up and becoming overwhelming.
Avoid Clutter
Ornaments and junk we never use or really appreciate for any purpose tend to be the biggest clutter in our homes. Most of the time, we purchase items that are not really needed or may eat up too much space in one part of the house. Huge vases, pots and pans, and other trivial ornamental articles are the perfect examples. Sell them on eBay or a garage sale and invest the money in efficient items that work better for your organized life and take up little space.
Find time to have fun.
A fun reward for getting and or maintaining a neat and tidy space should be rewarded! Always remember that it is important to find time for yourself. Make some engagements for yourself and make the most out of them. You have to cherish the free schedules that you have allotted for yourself. You can go out with your family and enjoy every moment spent with them.
Do not think too much about things that you think are difficult to accomplish.
Having a calm and positive attitude about the job will make the task get done more quickly, and you might even enjoy it. Make yourself relax and calm your mind to get in a comfortable mood. You might be pressured and stressed if you dwell on the hard items rather than thinking of the satisfaction of finishing them. You should start doing the hardest items first on your list. Then the rest of the tasks will follow much easier once the hardest job is completed.
Do things once.
Do not let piles of paper and documents build up and mentally overwhelm you. You can read the file and you may refer it again to someone else. It is important that you understand the file so that you do not have to get back on it again. If you are done, there is no need to include it anymore in the many piles of papers that are on your table. File it or pass it on.
Do things on time so it does not pile up.
This is key to not letting work back-up on you and create massive stress from overdue tasks. Complete what you can do today. Be realistic rather than idealistic, but be firm about completing what you start.
Prioritize.
Decide that the day is YOURS and you are the only person who will decide what your priority tasks are for the day. Do all the things you need to do NOW and methodically defer the things that you can do later with more time.
Monitor your Telephone Calls.
Just how much time do you spend on the phone every day? Telephone calls may just consume time if there are unnecessary things that are being brought up in your conversation. You may limit the time by directly pointing out the issues that are to be discussed.
Be systematic.
Most of the time, you use so much of your time looking for a particular item. You should create a system that is applicable and effective in your daily tasks. Use it for your own good; you may just realize that there are more times that you can have a rest.
Do things that make you happy and feel life’s most precious times.
How organized is your life so that you get to enjoy yourself with your friends and loved ones? Enjoy walking around in your garden with your kids. You may go to the mall and watch a movie, or you may even play your favorite sport. It is important in one’s life to allocate some time for yourself. Think of it as a reward or a retreat from the pressures and stress you get from work. There are many rewards and benefits including these:
You will have more room.
This is something to really look forward to. When you get organized whether at your room or at your desk at work, you’ll find you have more free space and that you’re space is uncluttered. You won’t even have to throw something out. You just need to place things in some sort of order and maintain that order at all times. As a result your mind will also feel more clear and uncluttered.
You will feel more in control.
Imagine being relaxed and free of stress when you look around you at your tidy home! Did you know that clutter around your house and at work causes the stress you’re feeling from time to time? It’s no wonder you’re feeling more irritated at work. As your clutter gets removed, you’ll feel that it is easier to breathe and take charge of your own life.
This is a skill like any other that we have to learn before we can be a master at it. Being organized requires a lot of discipline to maintain. Nobody ever said it was easy. You need to make sure you don’t lapse back to your old habits or all of what you have done will be for nothing.
Lastly, do not think that you are a naturally disorganized person. What you need may be just a simple workable calendar system for your appointments, trying out more organizational ideas you have in mind and to be yourself. Try these and experience the feeling of freedom and having more time for other activities.
